Firstly, I wanted to comment on Kyle Barker's "Nat Turner." The pictures were very graphic and extremely shocking. I think the most horrifying images revolved around the baby. Seeing the child on the floor still connected to the umbilical cord was very disturbing. I can't imagine people being treated that way. Then the parent throwing his child overboard so he/she wouldn't have to live that kind of life. Its so disturbing. I can't imagine being treated as an object and not a as person. The handout for today was intense as well. Talking about what rights a slave had and where they stood in the law. And what mixed individuals were considered. It was just insane to see people arguing about this.
Out of the poems we read for today, my favorite was "Songs For The People." I just really like the idea of using music to unify others and to heal the pain caused by horrible events or times. I also thought the poem was very powerful and hopeful which doesn't seem to be present in many of the poems.
Also I was thinking about class the other day. I think someone mentioned Disney and I was thinking about how racist the movies really are. Majority of the time, the villains have dark features, while the heroes and heroines have light hair and eyes. I just think its crazy how darker skin is associated with evil and light skin associated with purity and good. Its all brainwashing really.
